Student Spotlight: Serena Fisher

To celebrate the 90th anniversary of our Australasian Branch, we're highlighting members and friends who have shared their connection to bbodance!

First in the series is the wonderful Serena Fisher, former bbodance student. Serena trained at Macquarie Performing Arts and offers huge thanks to Elizabeth Derby and Lisa-Maree Derby for their guidance and teaching.

Here's where Serena's dance journey has taken her:

"After over 8 years at Macquarie Dancers, I joined the classical ballet stream at The McDonald College Performing Arts and the Premier State Youth Ballet Company (under the direction of Josephine Jason and Allan Cross). I was then awarded the Female Ballet Scholarship at the McDonald Performing Arts Challenge and was fortunate enough to visit The Royal Ballet School and the English National Ballet School (ENBS) in London. This visit led to a scholarship to join the second year of the ENBS upper school."

"I moved to London at the age of 17 (sorry, Mum!) and graduated with a Diploma of Professional Dance alongside a full-time contract with Národní divadlo Brno (National Theatre Brno) in the Czech Republic. I spent just over five years with the company, performing Corps de Ballet, Soloist, and Principal roles."

"In 2017, I successfully auditioned for Queensland Ballet in Brisbane, joining as a Corps de Ballet member before being promoted to First Company Artist in 2019. In April 2023, I retired from the stage performing my favorite principal role: Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis, in Queensland Ballet’s production of Giselle."
