90 Years in Australasia

2026 marks an incredible milestone for bbodance - 90 years since we opened our branch in Australia. In 1936, our Founder Edouard Espinosa travelled to Sydney to set up this branch and we haven't looked back. Our members and friends are now located widely across Australia and New Zealand, with fantastic support from our current Branch Administrators, Liz Derby and Lisa-Maree Derby.

We couldn't be prouder to have teachers and students worldwide who wholeheartedly share our vision to create accessible dance opportunities for all. To share the amazing work our members and friends are doing across this region, we ask you to complete the following form to share your memories, achievements and upcoming events: https://forms.gle/K2MBqVAmk5MYADzC7

Or contact info@bbo.dance to share your connection to the organisation.

Keep an eye across our channels to stay up to date with the excitement of this occasion. To kick off the celebrations, below are some special messages from our wonderful Patrons.

"Celebrating 90 years of bbodance in Australasia is a tribute to the dancers and educators who have shaped its remarkable legacy. It is a pleasure to acknowledge an organisation whose artistry, discipline, and significant contribution to ballet’s history continue to guide the artists who follow in its footsteps."

bbodance Patron, Gillian Revie

"Congratulations big time for the bbodance celebration of 90 years in Australasia! What an amazing achievement! I would enjoy to let you all know I'm still teaching and travelling particularly in both New Zealand and Australia and part of the yearly Alberta Ballet School auditions in September.

I’m a judge this year again for the Australian Grand Prix in Sydney and looking forward to seeing the talent. Congratulations again to bbodance!"

bbodance Patron, Martin James

A special video message from bbodance Patron, Craig Revel Horwood, who wishes bbodance Australasia a very happy 90th anniversary!
