TIMETABLE:
22nd October (11.00am - 1.00pm): 'Beyond the Mirror: Supporting Healthy Body Image in Dance' with Mhairi Keil
This workshop explores the powerful connection between body image, relationship with food, and mental health in dancers. It delves into the complex factors that shape body image, emphasising the influential role of the dance environment and the people within it. Teachers will gain practical strategies to shift the focus from outward appearance to inner qualities such as strength, creativity, and resilience- promoting a more functional and empowering view of the dancer’s body.
By fostering healthier body image, educators play a vital role in improving dancers’ relationships with food. The session highlights how intentional language and supportive environments can encourage dancers to nourish their bodies with purpose- fuelling not only performance, but long-term health and wellbeing. Emphasis will be placed on reframing food as a tool for strength, recovery, and self-care, rather than a reflection of aesthetics. Ultimately, this workshop equips dance teachers to guide their students toward a more balanced, confident, and sustainable approach to both body image and nutrition.
28th October (11.00am - 1.00pm): 'Teaching Tools for students with ADHD & Autism' with Bev Cawsey and Sarah Anne Westcott
More information coming soon...
7th November (11.00am - 12.30pm): 'Rest & Burnout' with Erin Sanchez
To optimise performance and reduce the likelihood of injury it is essential for dancers to strike a careful balance of training and rest. Led by Erin Sanchez, Lead Specialist Health, Wellbeing, and Performance for One Dance UK, this session will focus on overtraining or overload in dance training and performance, including the symptoms of acute and chronic overtraining, and discuss the pressures that dance training and careers may place on practices around rest and recovery.
All webinars are worth 2 hours of CPD for attendance and will be recorded, in case you can't watch live.
